Dr. M. Sudhakara Reddy is a Professor & Head in the Department of Biotechnology at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala, India. He earned his PhD from Centre of Advanced studies in Botany, University of Madras and gained post-doctoral experience in the University of Lyon1, France and University of Alabama, Huntsville, USA. He has noteworthy contributions both in teaching and research and has been figured among top 2% scientists in the list compiled by Stanford University since 2021. His research areas include identification of metal resistance genes, use of P solubilizing bacteria and fungi for sustainable agriculture, bacteria as self-healing material in concrete structures, metatranscriptomics and natural products for healthcare.
He handled projects sponsored by DBT, DST, IFCPAR, CSIR, NBCC, UGC and AERB and published more than 200 research articles in SCI journals. He has supervised 30 PhD students, 70 MSc/MTech students. He has been awarded with fellow of mycological society of India by Mycological society of India, Fellow of Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy by ABAP, Fellow of BRSI by Biotech Research Society India and Fellow of Indian academy of Microbiological society. He also obtained Industrial Talent award from ABAP in 2017, Senior Scientist award in 2022. He has delivered Dr. Agnihothrudu, Dr. Shome and Dr. Natarajan memorial award lectures in Mycological society of India.
